Even while Oommen Chandy earned admiration as a Chief Minister for his unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability, he demonstrated an extraordinary ability to embrace criticism with an open heart and a genuine smile, setting a shining example of grace and optimism in the realm of politics.

He always maintained a composure listening to dissenting voices and maintaining a positive demeanour even in challenging times. He always believed that a democratic society thrives when leaders are receptive to feedback and willing to address concerns. All controversies apart, Oommen Chandy’s tenure as Chief Minister of Kerala had witnessed launch of several welfare programs and ambitious development projects. He leaves behind an indelible legacy as a people’s leader who uplifted the lives of the people and propelled the state towards new heights of progress.

His unwavering commitment to social welfare projects touched the lives of millions of people in the state. The mass contact programme (Janasamparka Paripadi) had set a benchmark on how a top leader of a state can directly listen to the problems faced by the people and solve them. This mass contact programme won him the United Nations Public Service Award.

During his tenure as the Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy spearheaded several healthcare reforms for the welfare of the people. The implementation of advanced healthcare schemes like Karunya benevolent scheme ensured free treatment to patients with cancer, haemophilia, kidney and heart diseases.
