Reena Manoj, a beautician of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, has embarked on a noble mission to offer free eyebrow tattooing services to cancer patients. For the last ten years, she has been doing free eyebrow tattooing for cancer patients, realising the emotional toll of hair loss during cancer treatment. She is doing free eyebrow tattoos for the survivors from different parts of the state to help them restore their confidence.
Reena learned eyebrow tattooing from her cousin who was an expert in it. It was a visit by a woman customer at her Salon, Reenz Unisex Family Salon in Thiruvananthapuram about ten years ago that prompted her to start such an initiative.
“The woman was in her 40s and wanted to get eyebrow tattooing done. After the eyebrows were done, the woman looked at me with teary- eyes. On enquiring further, I came to know that she was a cancer survivor. Though she had regained her tresses, her eyebrows weren’t growing back. The woman thanked me for helping her regain her confidence. This incident prompted me to do eyebrow tattoos for cancer patients free of cost,” Reena told “Open Digest”.
As eyebrows play a significant role in framing the face and enhancing one’s appearance, Reena decided to support the cancer patients because chemotherapy or radiation would result in loss of hair, including eyebrows and it can be emotionally devastating for the survivors.
“For a usual eyebrow tattoo, it costs around Rs 6,000 which can be difficult for the families of cancer patients to pay after the expensive treatment. So, I decided to offer free eyebrow tattooing, especially to financially poor cancer patients,” Reena added.
Reena has done free eyebrow tattoos for cancer patients in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kollam. Appointments for eyebrow tattoos are booked by the patients in advance. Reena, who has given her assistance in eyebrow tattooing and micro-blading to celebrities in pan India film industry, will continue with her noble mission.
The eyebrow tattooing helps recreate natural-looking eyebrows, providing a sense of normalcy during a challenging time to the survivors. Reena studies each client’s facial structure, skin tone and personal preferences to ensure that the tattooed eyebrows blend seamlessly enhancing their natural features.
