This panchayat in Ernakulam is on a mission to make senior citizens digital savvy. As digital transactions have become vital in today’s life, Amballoor grama panchayat near Kochi, Kerala has launched a project called “Naipunya Nagaram” to train all senior citizens living in the panchayat limits to use computers and mobile phone apps.
The Naipunya Nagaram project was launched by the District Planning Committee and District Panchayat to provide digital literacy to age-old persons. Officials said the project turned out to be a hit as 50 senior citizens from 16 wards of the grama panchayat took part in the training. “They were given training on how to easily manage various apps and do online transactions on computers. The 10-day training was organised free of cost for people above 60 years of age in the panchayat,” the officials said.
The training specifically focused on helping the senior citizens learn how to use apps and computers for banking, communication and digital payments. “Majority of them are eager to learn. We want them to become more independent. Digital literacy not only makes their life smooth, comfortable, and easier but also keeps them in the mainstream of society,” the officials added.
Useful to all senior citizens
