‘Spadikam’, one of the yesteryear blockbuster Malayalam movies, is all set to hit the theatres once again on February 9, 2023. Mohanlal took to social media recently to announce the release of the remastered version of the iconic movie.

The film will be released in 4K visual quality and with Dolby Atmos sound. The new version has been made on a whopping budget of over Rs one crore.

Though several movies in Malayalam have been remastered earlier including Mohanlal’s “Narasimham”, this is the first Mollywood movie to get a worldwide release of its remastered version.

‘Spadikam’, the 1995 movie directed by Bhadran, was one the biggest hits in Mohanlal’s career. The people of Kerala still adore ‘Adu Thoma’, the protagonist played by Mohanlal.

The movie had an ensemble cast that included Thilakan, Urvashi, Spadikam George, K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Rajan P. Dev, Nedumudi Venu, Silk Smitha, Chippy, and V. K. Sreeraman.

The question is, will this be a trendsetter for the Malayalam film industry? If the response to the 4K version of ‘Spadikam’ is encouraging, then of course, we can expect several old Malayalam blockbusters back in the theatres again enhanced with the modern day technical brilliance.
